StormBoyZ - Making Of

Here are some tips on painting and assembling the flying Orks.

1/ Assembling

I had an old metal version of the Stormboyz.
So what I did was mixing them with the new plastic models, plus a fair amount of bitz from different sets.

2/Basecoat

I basecoated them in black, then sprayed with a dark brown.
(Scorched Brown, the old version for Rhinox Hide.) I really recommend this.
It saves me so much time for next steps and it's very forgiving for details I could forget later on.

3/ Rust.
I used the same technique on all the parts of the characters with some metal component.
I picked the colors from there:
Vermin Brown, then Blazing Orange then final dry brush with metallic colors

With base layers colors.

Before doing the base.

With their positions, most of the models can easily fall down.
I tried to lower the center point of gravity (?? Probably not the good English term ??)
and put some bolts in the base to add some Weight.
It was a bad idea as I melted half of them when trying to level with sanding tool...

  1. Good conversions and nice painting man. Weighting down the bases is a defo for some minis. For future reference if you want to avoid melting the bases try using lead foil. You can buy it very cheap her in China from most fishing tackle shops. Its really easy to bend shape and cut too so I'm sure you can find all sorts of uses for it.... :)
